1994 John Elway Game-Worn Broncos Throwback Jersey

Certificate No: 44698

The Denver Broncos haven't been able to replace John Elway. Once in a lifetime a quarterback comes around who brings what Elway did to the table. A game was never out of reach as long as Elway always had some bullets in his cannon of an arm. After three unsuccessful tries, Elway finally won a Super Bowl. The next year he repeated and went out a two-time Super Bowl champion.
This jersey was worn by Elway in 1994. A Wilson exclusivity tag is sewn in the tail, and suspended off the Wilson label is a size flag "48" designator. The style replicated the Bronco jerseys of 1965-66, which featured a contrasting royal blue sleeve inserts accented by white striping and has been considered the club's most attractive style in their 48-year history. The use is light, as would be expected from a jersey only wore for a game. Of special note note on this jersey are the elasticized sleeve ends, the placement of the NFL 75th Anniversary patch, and the "9/18/94 vs. L.A" designation written in black marker on the Wilson tag. A review of Getty images from the Raider game noted on the tag confirms these unique aspects. Getty image #360857 cleary shows Elway wearing the cuffed sleeves during that game. This differed radically from his normal, open QB, semi-floppy sleeve ends. Highlighting the left breast is an NFL 75th Anniversary patch which is correct in its low position as seen in Getty image #248951. Constructed out of mesh, the jersey has all of its identifiers applied in two-color tackle twill. The numbers have softened, puckered and frayed slightly.
"ELWAY" appears across the verso, affixed to an elongated mesh nameplate. The thick letters are consistent with what the Broncos wore. Two noteworthy customizations include orange stretch spandex which runs from the underarm down the sides and blue spandex inserts under the arms. There are minor pilling marks on the upper edges of the side panels. Overall, a quality Elway gamer from those famous "Orange Crush" days.

1998 Pepper Johnson Game Used New York Jets Home Jersey

Certificate No: 57649

When Bill Parcells took the contols in 1997 he turned a moribund Jets franchise into an AFC title contender in two seasons. Part of his strategy was to bring in proven winners to serve as leaders on the field and in the locker room. As a Superbowl winning LB with the Giants, Pepper was one of those "Parcells guys" brought in to help change the culture.

A second round pick out of Michigan in 1986, Pepper learned his trade as a member of the elite Giants LB corps on two superbowl winning teams. Pepper followed Belichick to the Browns in 1993 and had a brief stint with the Lions before finishing his playing career with the green and white in 1998.

1998 was also the season the Jets returned to the vintage uniform style of the Namath era. The jersey is a home green Starter size 48L, with correct tagging, including '98' year tag swatch. All numerals and identifiers are sewn on including 'P. Johnson' as there were three Johnsons on the '98 club.

This style is uniques for two reasons: the necks were very tight; players complained, and the 1999 jerseys had much larger necks. Second, there is no shoulder gusset between the shoulder yoke and the first white shoulder stripe. The equipment personnel complained that is was difficult to get the jerseys over the shoulder pads. In 1999 the shoulder gussets were added and have become a standard feature on all subsequent Jets jerseys.

But beyond the technical specs, what makes this jersey rare is that when Parcells came in he changed the culture in every way, including clamping down on allowing game used gear out of the equipment room. While there are abundant examples of early to mid '90's Jets gear, I have seen only a handful of real game used 1998 jerseys hit the hobby over the last 12 years. Parcells simply would not let them out.

This jersey shows a full season's worth of punishing LB wear. It sports one dozen repairs, inlcuding a 3 inch blowout on the back of the left shoulder. It shows numerous hit marks and  paint stains, easily identified as the result of collisions with Patriots and Dolphins. A couple of unrepaired tears are also evident.

The jersey also features custom underarm gussets, and a perfect bold signature on the front '5'. The consignor obtained the jersey from a personal friend of Pepper's.

No Jets collection is complete without an example from the first year of the Team's return to its classic style.

1991 Ken O’Brien New York Jets Home Game Used Jersey

Certificate No: 57697

While not considered the cream of the 1983 QB draft crop, Ken O'Brien was a terriffic QB and leader of a very potent 1980's Jets offense. Ken is best remembered for his shootouts with Marino in the Meadowlands. Who can forget O'B to Walker in OT to squish the the Fish,  the bombs hurled Al Toon's way during their too few years as teammates, or the touch passes to Mickey Shuler and Johnny Hector crossing underneath the LB's?

Offered is O'Brien's 1991 home green champion jersey. In 1991 Ken led the team to the playoffs and won his second Pro Bowl berth. The jersey shows excellent QB wear, including scattered hits marks, popped mesh holes, scrapes, staining and pilling on the shoulders and on the back. It shows the kind of wear one would expect of a QB jersey.

The jersey dates to the 1991 campaign as the NFL adopted the neck shield and the Jets had a single Champion tag. In 1990 there was no neck shield on the black trimmed jerseys and in 1992 the team went to double tagging by adding a year tag alongside the manufacturer's tag.

All numerals and identifiers are screened on in white trimmed in black and the NOB is screened on a correctly cut plate. Champion logos adorn both sleeves. Proper open floppy sleeves.

I have seen too many team issued O'Brien's over the years, and would not have one in my collection. This jersey represents an opportunity to acquire a rare game used piece from a playoff/pro bowl year. A must have for any Jets or QB collector.

2008 Devin Hester Professional Model Pro Bowl Game Jersey (Signed) (Mears LOA)

Certificate No: 56274

Offered is a red, white and blue combination material jersey, [size] 52 +4 (so tagged in tail). Hester’s name is on a plate on back with sewn lettering. Reebok manufactured the jersey. Hester has signed in black on the back number 2 and the shirt comes with a certificate of authenticity for the autograph and a photograph of him personally signing the jersey. The sleeves are cuffed.

Obviously it shows no game wear but is as close to a game worn jersey as you can get at a fraction of the price. Hester came to the Bears in 2006 and was nick named the "Windy City Flyer".  Hester holds the league's all-time record for most kicks returned for a touchdown in a season and as a result, is one of the most popular current players on the Bears roster. These type of jerseys are often referred to as pro cut, or professional models, as they are the same style (not always the correct size or with the proper alterations) as those intended to be worn in the game and are difficult to obtain and would be a centerpiece in any Bears or NFL collection.

Lot comes with MEARS auction LOA & a COA (w/ proof photo) from the signing.

Cedric Benson Game-Worn University of Texas Jersey w/Holiday Bowl Patch (2 Repairs)

Certificate No: 56494

Cedric Benson saved his NFL career with a remarkable 2009 season.

The Cincinnati Bengals were pleasantly surprised with Benson's output - 1,251 yards and six touchdowns in only 13 games.

This size "50" jersey was worn by Benson when he was busting through for the University of Texas. Worth special mention is the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl patch sewn on the left breast. Because it features the patch, it was either worn during the game or during the season and served as a backup for the bowl contest. The case can be stated for either.

Outstanding running back use is shown on the offered pullover with two team repairs on the left dazzle cloth shoulder. Portal mesh is built into the body. There are a few contact marks on the shoulders as well. All of the identifiers are heat pressed in single-color white. "BENSON" is affixed to an elongated nameplate on back.

An "XII" patch is sewn over the right breast while the opposite side has a Nike manufacturer's logo. Both sleeve ends are linemen cut. Sewn in the collar is a Nike size tag and "L" flag tag.

2000 Tom Brady Game-Worn, Signed Patriots Cleats (Rookie w/Special Team Designation

Certificate No: 55617

Tom Brady began his magical run in 2000. Nobody believed he would reach the heights he has - 3 Super Bowl wins, an MVP and the single-season touchdown king.

These size "14" turf shoes were used by Tom Terrific when he was cutting his teeth with the Pats. Decent use is shown on the shoes. Dirt is embedded on the bottoms. "12" is written on the heels in black marker for identification and on the bottom of the shoes.

Brady signed one of the shoes in black felt tip.

According to the Nike inventory tag, these were made "2-23-00". Also worth mention is the "Pat Pending For Pats" on the tag as well.

Brady game-worn items are nearly non-existent.

2002 Junior Seau Game-Worn Shoulder Pads (Final Season in San Diego)

Certificate No: 41617

The Hall of Fame will eventually open its doors to Junior Seau. If the linebacker can play like he did last year, there's still plenty of gridiron duty left in the 39-year-old's body. No matter where next year takes Seau, he'll be remembered for his 13 years in San Diego. This pair of size "XXL" shoulder pads was used by Seau during his final season with the Chargers - 2002. Personally given to a Pro Bowl athletic trainer, these shoulder pads were probably used for more than one season. "55" is decaled on front. Tremendous wear is exhibited on the armor with multiple scrapes, scratches and signs of use. Seau must have really favored these. The pads are in working order, and all the fixtures hopefully expected of such an accessory remain.

A rare chance to own a pair of shoulder pads from a sure-fire Hall of Famer.

2004 Donovan McNabb Game-Worn Eagles Jersey

Certificate No: 55122

Donovan McNabb and Andy Reid are joined at the hip. Both began their careers in the City of Brotherly Love in 1999. Each year there is talk of disbanding the duo, but invariably each year the Eagles brass comes to its senses.

McNabb has been a top-notch quarterback since his rookie campaign. He did help the Eagles advance to one Super Bowl and come oh so close numerous times.
This size “50” jersey was worn by McNabb during the 2004 season. Acceptable wear is shown with puckering on the three-color tackle twill identifiers. The puckering is consistent on each identifier. “04-50” and “S” (cut) swatches occupy the collar.

Featured in the tail is a Reebok manufacturer’s tag. The jersey is custom hemmed right below the blue Reebok label. Both sleeve ends are elasticized, a staple on McNabb gamers. Eagles’ team patches and Reebok logos adorn the sides as well.

2006 Darrelle Revis Game-Worn University of Pitt Jersey

Certificate No: 55216

With Rex Ryan steering the ship, it won't be long before the Jets are Super Bowl bound. One of the rocks in the secondary is Darrelle Revis. In fact, many consider Revis the premier shutdown corner in the NFL. Right Ocho Cinco. Revis first made waves while at the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, Revis donned this size "44" Adidas-made pullover. Decent wear is exhibited on the jersey with contact marks on the left shoulder. All of the identifiers are applied in gorgeous three-color formation. Each identifier has puckered noticeably, and the back numbers feature contact marks. Both sleeve ends are ribbed. Adidas and Big East (scuffing) patches accentuate the front. Sewn in the tail is a Adidas size label and "04" year identifier. College jerseys are among the hardest to locate.
