Sid Gillman Personal 1980 Super Bowl NFC Champions Ring w/Family Letter 14k

Certificate No: 55278

Sid Gillman left an indelible mark on the NFL. Before Gillman took his position as coach, football teams ran on first and second downs before being forced into passing to move the sticks.
It was the Hall of Fame innovator who developed the West Coast Offense in the early '60s. This theory involved short passes with quick slant strikes and timing routes to effectively move the ball.

It was so successful that this offense is still preferred by many teams to this day. Often when speaking of a coach, teams talk about his coaching tree - the men who he helped groom along the way. Gillman's coaching tree involves such standouts as Al Davis, Bill Walsh, Chuck Noll, Ara Parseghian, Bo Schembechler, Chuck Knox, Dick Vermeil and George Allen.

Not too bad for a guy who didn't get his first shot at big time coaching until the age of 44. The lasting image of Gillman is with one of those notorious bow ties and a pipe in his hand doing what he loved to do best - design offensive plays. Long live the great Sid Gillman. Even 50 years after the fledging AFL disbanded, the game still feels your presence.

AMI has secured some of Gillman's personal treasures. These have never been offered before and are original. These are not reproductions and have remained in the family until now. Each will include a letter signed by the family of Gillman.

This size "14 1/2" Eagles championship ring was presented to Gillman for his role as a consultant with the 1980 Eagles. “NFC CHAMPIONS” and “PHILADELPHIA EAGLES” is found around the perimeter on a rounded rectangular-shaped glossy dark green synthetic stone. A gold eagle with gold talon is grasping a prong-set football shaped marquise diamond. The diamond is roughly .35 pt. - .40 pt. to roughly a carat.
One of the sides reads “GILLMAN EAGLES 20 DALLAS 7” an Eagles helmet and “COACH” embossed. The opposite side showcases “SUPER BOWL XV 1980’ and the Lombardi Trophy raised.
“14K JOSTENS” is engraved on the inside.
While the Eagles weren’t quite able to win the big one, this offering serves as a never-ending reminder at how special the team was in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Dick Vermeil turned around a downtrodden organization and made it matter again. His secret weapon – Hall of Fame coach Sid Gillman.
